National Tests
The children in years 2 to 6 will be undertaking their numeracy and reading tests over the next fortnight. The test dates are as follows: Wednesday 6th May - numeracy procedural tests,  Friday - reading test and 12th May numerical reasoning. Please try and ensure your children are at school on these days and on time as we shall be starting each one promptly at 9:30 am.
Thursday 7th May- Polling Day
As the Llanferres site is a polling station, all the Junior pupils will be off for a day in Llandudno. They will be visiting Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn to make a presentation about our school to the children there and then undertaking a range of activities investigating the contrasting locality of Llandudno. The day will end with some chips!! 

The Foundation Phase pupils will be having a 'Pirate Day' aaaarghhh !!!   Please come straight to Llanarmon in your pirate outfits- tame parrots only please! Alice the cook will be making a pirate lunch if required. 

Denbighshire Masterchefs!
Da Iawn Sophie and Amy who have got through to the final of the Denbighshire Masterchef Competition. The final will be judged by Graham Tinsley. Good Luck everyone!

Children in Need

Well done all you superheroes!!! We managed to raise £190 on Friday. Da iawn to Mrs Davies' class on their sponsored silence- a very peaceful day in Llanferres!

Bro Famau on TV again!

Immy, Ben and Oliver were stars on Cbeebies this week! We have all enjoyed watching them ( and their mums and dads!!) on 'Mr Bloom, Here and There' . This was all filmed oggerheads park. There is another episode to watch on the 14th November too. If you missed it it is available on iplayer ( episode 7!) 


Autumn Disco    Thursday 23rd October   5pm to 6:30pm £1.50 per child to include a hotdog!  

Harvest Celebration

In the classrooms
There has been lots going on in all the classrooms in the last two weeks.
The children in Key Stage Two have begun to find out all sorts if interesting facts about World war Two. A big Thank you for all the interesting stories and precious artifacts that have been lent to us.

Parent Governor election
We had one nomination ( Mrs Sally Harris, mum of Daisy and Ben) for the Parent Governor vacancy, so we do not need to hold an election.  Sally has worked tirelssly for the PTFA over the years and we are delighted to welcome her onto the Governing Body.  

Sporting Highlights
Tammy's Gym club has proved very popular after school on Tuesdays. She will be finishing at Half term but will be back for another 6 week block in January hopefully.

Mr Jones's Year 6 have been enjoying working with Matt Jones from Wrexham FC on literacy and fitness. They have been writing newspaper reports, scouting for new players etc and taking part in some exercise!  Matt will run his after school football coaching after half term on the pitch in Llanferres.  He will be back to do an assembly and to give out the information next week.

Llongafarchiadau- congratulations to Neve La Flamme who came first in the beam at the National gymnastics championships in Cardiff last week- we are really proud of you Neve!

Visitors and Visits
Rev Adrian joined us for an assembly this week in Llanferres. Diolch Rev Adrian- we always enjoy your stories!

Apologies to the children who are waiting to start the violin. I have been assured that the new violin teacher will be with us asap.

Lost Property!

We have acquired a very large number of jumpers/sweatshirts with no names or homes. If you are missing some could you please check. Could we please ask you all to put your child's name in all their clothing then we can quickly match up clothes to owners!

We have said a sad good bye to Theresa the cook today. We wish her all the best in her new role working for Flinthsire catering. we'll miss her cakes!  We also said good bye to Jake who has moved house and school- all the best in your new school Jake.

A big Bro Famau welcome to Miss Melanie Jones, who we have now appointed as the new teaching assistant in Llanarmon working with Mrs Lightfoot and Mrs Dodd. Miss Jones has been working with us since June on a temporary basis and we are very glad that she will now  join our Bro Famau family officially.  Croeso Miss Jones!

What a busy two weeks! Everyone has settled in really well, especially our new Nursery and Reception pupils and the children who have joined us this year.

We have lots of exciting events planned for this term including a dance workshop for Years 3 and 4 and a literacy and fitness project with Wrexham Football Club for Year 6 .

Hopefully you have all received and outline of what the children will be covering this term . Key Stage two will be finding out about World War two in their topic of 'Your Country Needs You' and the Foundation Phase will be finding out all bout about homes/castles  etc in their topic of 'Knights and Princesses'.

Da Iawn i chi to Mrs Wynne's class who performed brilliantly in the Mother's Union service at St.Garmon's church and a big thank you to the Mother's Union for asking us and for the lovely refreshments!!

Its already been a very busy half term.
Dennis Carter and Eric Maddern have visited the school to work with each class on poetry and story telling.
The children have written some fantastic poems which the children shall be publishing on the website. Dennis really enjoyed his trip to Bro Famau and was very impressed with the standard of writing.

Year Six had a great morning at Ysgol Brynhyfryd. They joined other children from the Ruthin cluster, getting to know the school and each other.

We are very proud of our successes at the recent URDD events.
Our gymnastics team came second, winning a silver medal at the National finals. Ardderchog!

Our children also did very well at the Ruthin area Eisteddfod, winning several firsts, seconds and thirds in the art and craft. Alfred's silk painting has gone through to the National competition. Da Iawn Alfred!
well done to everyone who entered. The standards were very high again this year.

Pre Nursery
We are currently taking names for children who are three before Christmas to join our Pre-Nursery group in January 2014 and children who are three before Easter to join in April 2014. If you know anyone whose children might be eligible please let them know or contact the school.  Our places our filling up fast!

School Dinners

The children should all have received the new menu. Please note that on the first week back,  Tuesday will be Bonfire Night bangers and mash and wednesday will be bolognese for the GRewat Free School Lunch
Mrs Davies' class are visiting Moel Famau that morning, but we will be back in time for lunch at school.

Staff changes
We said 'Goodbye and Good Luck' to Mr. Sparks today. He will be replaced by Mr.Matthew Jones after Half term. I know he is very excited to start work with us here at Bro Famau and to get to know all the children.

After Half term Years 5 and 6 will be swimming on a Friday afternoon and Years 3 and 4 will doing PE in Llanferres.
On Monday afternoon all the Foundation Phase pupils will come to Llanferres for PE and music/forest school sessions .

Autumn Disco

Thank you very much to the PTFA for organizing the brilliant disco yesterday. Apparently the children thought it was 'Awesome!'   The costumes were brilliant and not too scarey!

Harvest Service/Food Bank
Thank you to everyone for the wonderful amount of food that was donated to the food bank. Mr Bob Ellis was very impressed by the school's caring and sharing attitude towards others and their knowledge of the Rights of the Child. He would like to come back to talk to the children further to tell them where all their food went.


The PTFA are busy planning Christmas activities. Don't forget to order from the Yellow Moon catalogue as a percentage of the order will go to the school.
Blue Bag collection is taking place on 5th November .

You shall shortly be receiving information regarding Christmas card orders again this year. They were lovely last year so we thought we'd try something similar but with another company.

As I'm writing this the weather is thundering and lightning outside- really autumnal!
I hope it improves for the half term break and that everyone has a good rest ready for the busy half term ahead!

Week ending 17th September 2013

We have had a very busy start to the new school year. Welcome to Mr Sparks who is teaching the Year 6 class in the mornings and in the junior classes in the afternoons.
Also a big welcome to our new Reception and Nursery pupils and to Robyn who has joined us in Llanferres this year.

Cross Country
Da iawn Bawb! Ysgol Bro Famau did very well in the Vale of Clwyd Cross Country with at least 5 of our runners going through to the next round in the Spring.

Year 5 joined with Ysgol Dyffryn Ial and Janice Chambers (writer and actress) as part of the Brynhyfryd cluster writing workshop and visited Ruthin Castle to undertake some spooky writing. This will form part of a book  created by all the Year 5 pupils in the Brynhyfryd Cluster.

Year 6 attended the European Day of Languages in the Pavillion, Llangollen. they had a great time learning Spanish and Italian. We can all talk about what is on a pizza in Italian now- make sure you practice in the next pizza restaurant you visit!.

Years 3 and 4 visited Dangerpoint in Talacre.
They learned all about keeping safe in lots of different situations including the sea, railways, and internet safety.

Toddler Groups
Our Toddler groups are both getting busy. They take place in Llanarmon on a Monday afternoon at 1:15 pm to 3pm and on a Thursday am starting at 9:15 in Llanferes hall. If you would like any more details please contact the school.

Rocket's Island

CBBC will be returning on the 4th October to do two more days of filming. On Monday 7th October they will be filming at the school and this will involve a fire scene with a fire engine. Please don't be alarmed if you see lots of smoke coming out of the building!!  We are very pleased that the children will be able to watch the actors and crew and hopefully have a chance to ask some questions.

Year 6 ICT workshop
Ian Gilbertson came to work with our year 6 class on Tuesday 25th June. The children worked with Microsoft 'paint' to illustrate some stories for the younger children.

Mrs Heather Powell visited all the children to talk about brass instruments and a music workshop in the summer holidays, Please return your forms to school if you would like  your child to attend.

Also don't forget to send in your instrument tuition forms asap for Sepetmber 2013. 

Elise from Dragon Sports came to work with Year3,4,5 . They all enjoyed a great athletics session. Mrs Wynne's class will have their turn on Monday 8th July in  Llanarmon.

Nursery trip
Nursery and Playgroup children had a great day out at Colwyn Bay mountain Zoo on Tuesday 4th July. Thanks to all the mums who took you all there and to Miss Wray and Mrs Dodd .  .  A super day out!  pictures to follow.

Week ending  21st June 2013
Year Six returned from Nant BH on Sunday tired but very happy.
 Thank you staff for giving up your weekends at this busy time of year!

Year Three, Four and Five had a brilliant time at Theatr Clwyd in Mold taking part in a drama workshop and performance of 'Sky Hawk'  . Both Mrs Wynne's and Mrs Davies' classes have been riveted to the book  and found the day really interesting. 

Sports Day
We managed it!  Thank you to all the parents who turned out not knowing if it was going to pour down or not and thank you to the PTFA for providing the children with refreshments.

National Music Day/ Can Sing Day    21st June 2013

All the children enjoyed singing and beat-boxing today. The children enjoyed a range of songs including 'Something inside so strong'  . 

Forest School

The children in Mrs Thomas' and Mrs Lightfoots' class enjoyed some forest school activities in the woodland area and outdoor garden on both sites.  This is part of our work on developing outdoor learning.  We would like  the children to bring in old pairs of wellies so that they can access the outdoors on a regular basis if possible.
